Evolution of My Photography: Embracing Change and Growth"
Lately, I've been reflecting on how my photography has evolved over the years, and I wanted to share some thoughts with you all. It's been quite the journey, filled with ups, downs, and plenty of learning experiences.
One of the most significant changes in my photography occurred about four years ago when I decided to shake things up and incorporate darker interiors into my dioramas. It was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but I quickly realized the benefits. By moving away from bright white backgrounds, I found that I could avoid overexposing my shots and losing important details. Plus, adding depth with darker interiors allowed me to create more dynamic and engaging compositions.
Embracing Change and Growth
Another big shift was in my styling approach. During my Master's program, I received valuable feedback on the importance of using every element in the scene to tell a complete story. While I initially leaned towards a minimalist aesthetic, I discovered that embracing a maximalist approach actually strengthened the narrative of my work. By adding more details and intricacies to my dioramas, I found that I could convey richer and more compelling stories.
Of course, my technical skills have also improved over time. One area where I've seen notable growth is in my use of depth of field. Take a look at the comparison photos—on the left, the background is quite blurry, with the focus softly blending into the surroundings. In contrast, the photo on the right features a sharper focus on the coffee maker, drawing the viewer's eye through the scene and creating a more dynamic composition.
Change can be daunting, but it's also necessary for growth. As I embark on this new direction in my photography, I'm excited to see how it will enhance my artistic vision and push me to new heights. Sure, there may be challenges along the way, but I'm ready to embrace them head-on and continue evolving as an artist.
So here's to embracing change, chasing growth, and never stopping the pursuit of creative excellence!
