Rooted in Care: A December Release from the Heart
My Rooted in Care calendar and zine are officially dropping this December, and I don’t think I’ve ever poured this much of myself into a project. This one feels different, quieter, more intentional, and deeply tied to the women and memories that shaped me.
If you’ve followed my work for a while, you know my calendars usually lean more playful, colorful, and doll-forward. But this year? I wanted to take it back home, literally. Rooted in Care is all about the intimate, everyday relationship between folks and their plants: the watering, the misting, the repotting, the quiet check-in before the day starts. Those tiny rituals that don’t look like much from the outside but carry a whole legacy of care.
Rooted in Care: A December Release from the Heart
I grew up watching that care in action. My Grandma Mable with her morning coffee and her award-winning rose bushes. Grandma Georgiana and her terracotta porch filled with plants. Godmother Earnestine’s house that always felt like a jungle (a magical one).
My parents’ bathroom that my Dad, Lewis, turned into a secret greenhouse. And my Sister in love Shantay, my plant-hunting partner in crime, still adding to her nursery like it’s a spiritual calling. All those moments live in this project.
About the Calendar
This year’s calendar leans into mood: terracotta, warm light, soft fabrics, gentle shadows, and plants in all their leafy glory. It’s less about the dolls taking center stage and more about the spaces we create and live in. Think:
• intimate kitchens
• misty bathrooms with plants on every ledge
• cozy living rooms
• balconies and porches turned into tiny sanctuaries
Each month feels like stepping into a plant filled space built with intention.
About the Zine
The zine is where I let myself stretch out.
It holds all the concepts that didn’t make it into the calendar, plus a few deeper visual stories, mini scenes that explore memory, ritual, and the ways we build green spaces even when we don’t have much room. If the calendar is the highlight reel, the zine is the diary.
Expect:
• plant-loving dolls in domestic spaces
• tiny moments of care and quiet tending
• layered textures, soft light, and my signature warm palette
• a bit of nostalgia tucked between the pages
It feels like the perfect companion piece, same spaces, different perspective.
Why December?
Because this project grew slow. It needed fall light, moody mornings, and space to breathe. And honestly, I needed that too. So, December felt right. A soft landing. A warm cup moment. Something to close the year with intention.
If you’ve been waiting…
Thank you. Truly.
Every calendar I release is a little time capsule of where I am creatively, and this one reflects so much growth. I can’t wait for you to hold it, flip through it, and maybe see a piece of your own story in it.
Both the Rooted in Care calendar and zine will be available the first week of December.
